While in the Republic of Korea, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended separate Bilateral Meetings with the Prime Minister of New Zealand; the President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam; and the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand at the Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Center (HICO). Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

 

During the Bilateral Meeting with The Right Honourable Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister of New Zealand, His Majesty in a titah highlights the enduring relations in trade, defence and people-to-people exchanges that both countries continue to enjoy. His Majesty says New Zealand is both a long-time friend and an important trading partner of Brunei Darussalam.

 

In this regard, His Majesty welcomes more opportunities to strengthen economic linkages as well as New Zealand's strong interest in developing food security and halal cooperation. Furthermore, His Majesty emphasises people-to-people linkages as important aspects of bilateral cooperation, bringing people from both sides closer together.

 

Bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and New Zealand were established on 5th May 1984. Both countries enjoy warm and friendly relations, built upon diplomatic engagement and bolstered by shared membership in major regional and international forums. Cooperation between the two nations include education, defence, trade, investment, and cultural and people-to-people links.

 

During the meeting, His Majesty extended an invitation for the Prime Minister of New Zealand to visit Brunei Darussalam at mutually convenient dates.
